So, up until we had Campbell we could go off and leave Grover at home alone with no problems...we didn't have to worry about him getting into anything or doing anything that we wouldn't approve of...but all of that has changed! And since all of that has changed we have had to change our exit strategies. We used to be able to let Grover out & then back in and tell him we would be back in a little while & head out the door. When we returned everything would be just as we had left it, no matter how much time had passed, but that is no longer the case.
The first incident occur ed on Wednesday evening, we headed over to my parents house on Wednesday night for the annual Vegetable Beef Soup dinner with my Uncle & Aunt. We were only gone about 2 1/2 hours which used to be nothing for Grover, but like I said that was way before Campbell. When we arrived home Brian was the first one in the house & as I am walking up the stairs in the garage I hear him say "oh no, what have you done" my immediate thought was that he had destroyed the sofa or Campbell's bouncy seat, which would have been way worse than what he did. Grover decided it would be a great idea to eat & i mean eat an entire bag of dirty diapers & leave little pieces of diapers all over the family room. I was completely grossed out by this & I still am and I will not let Grover lick me, Campbell or anything that belongs to either of us.
Then on Thursday, we headed off to my parents for Thanksgiving & we left in a bit of a hurry...leaving on time with a baby just doesn't happen, but I will get better! So we left with me yelling at Brian to get the plastic bag with diapers & he accidentally picked up the bag with new Christmas ornaments in it & he tossed those in the trash, leaving the dirty diapers for Grover to devour again! Oh JOY! So, we have learned our lessons and will no longer be leaving diapers in bags b/c Grover eats them & we also learned that Campbell's dirty clothes must be put in the bottom of her closet b/c he also likes to dig around in her hamper...luckily he didn't eat any of her stuff b/c I might have killed him!
So, quick recap...don't leave diapers & Campbell's clothing out or else you will have to clean up after a dirty dog!!!!!

Splish Splash...Campbell Took Her First Bath
We gave Campbell her first real official bath this afternoon. We decided to give a try after we had feed her, hoping that with a full belly she would be a happy girl in the tub and she was! She really seemed to love sitting in the water and having her Mommy give her a bath while Daddy stood by with the camera to capture the event.

I love the way babies smell after a bath...so yummy! After her bath we have her a little baby massage with some yummy smelling lotion. She was so relaxed after the bath, it was so great.

Since she was so relaxed we decide that it might be the perfect time to take some pictures of her in a very special dress. This is the dress that I came home from in the hospital and I think it was a good idea that we took the picture today, b/c she is larger than I was when I was born. I weighed 7 lbs 11 oz & little miss weighs 9 lbs 7 oz. I love to look at the pictures of her....I still can't get over her hair, perfect for clippies!

Campbell - 2 Weeks Old
We ventured off to the doctor's this morning for Campbell's two week appointment, it is still so hard for me to believe that she is 2 weeks old...CRAZY!!!! She is a little piggy...she weighs in at 9 lbs 7 oz. Dr. S said that at this point they just want to make sure that babies are back up to their birth weights & well Campbell has passed her birth weight and is moving on. She is in the 90th percentile for her weight and in the 50th percentile in her length & head circumference.
I hope that soon we will start to get a little bit more of a routine or at least figure out what is day and what is night....getting up in the middle of the night to feed her is really tough. I do love being able to look at her while she eats and the house is silent, it almost feels like it is just us in the house, even though Brian is laying right next to us. These special moments are the ones I want to remember forever, when she is eating and grabs my finger with her tiny hand and looks up at me, my heart just melts over and over again.
We don't have much planned for the weekend, except heading to my parents for an outing on Sunday. We were supposed to have a neighborhood baby shower on Sunday for two girls in the neighborhood that are due in December, but everyone seems to be sick or have little ones that are sick, so we cancelled the shower & will try and get together after the new year. Brian is heading off to the VCU v. Oklahoma game on Saturday night with Brad, so that should be fun. I think Campbell and I will stay home and maybe watch a movie or catch up on all the shows on the DVR...it is getting ready to burst!
Next week will be the first week it will just be me and Campbell all week long. It has been so nice to have Brian here for 3 days each week, just nice to have someone to talk with or watch Campbell while I run upstairs to switch the laundry or just to take a break for 5 minutes. I know we will be fine, but it will take some time to get used to being the only one here all day long.
We have loved the weather this week, except for the rain, b/c it gives us the chance to get out and take a walk. It is hard not being able to really go anywhere with her, I am just afraid of her getting sick and with everyone I know being sick I feel better just sticking close to home. I could totally use a trip to Target or any store for that matter, so I might leave Campbell at home with Brian for a while on Saturday and just go and walk around Target or Barnes and Noble.
We have been so blessed my our friends and family over the past weeks with all the meals and well wishes, so we just want to say thank you to everyone who has been thinking about us. Campbell is so lucky to have all of you in her life.
I promised to upload some new pictures this weekend, like I said it is hard when I am the only one here to run upstairs to load pictures when she is downstairs sleeping, but I will get her new pictures upload this weekend. That is something else we need to do this weekend, take her photos her birth announcements/Christmas cards. I still can't believe that Thanksgiving is next week...I am so excited about eating all that yummy food!!!!

I Still Can't Believe It
I still can't believe that Campbell has been here for over a week now. It is amazing to sit here and watch her sleep and think that just over a week ago she was still inside me. We are so blessed to have her in our lives, overall she is a pretty easy baby. She sleeps well during the day and I do believe might be figuring out what is day and what is night, seeing as we have had 2 really good nights, but I won't count my chickens before they hatch...things could be different tonight. Good thing today was Sunday which means lots of football and lots of mini naps while Campbell napped!
I want to do a quick recap of my stay at the hospital just so I can look back and remember and years from now Campbell can go back and read how I felt about it. Let's see....
We checked into the hospital on Wednesday, November 4th at around 4 pm and began the process of filling out paperwork and answering tons of questions & have an iv line started. We got settle into our room & I got to put on my beautiful hospital gown & prepare to spend the next couple of ours in bed....which was hard to do b/c the bed wasn't the most comfortable thing. But around 8 o'clock, the doctor came in to give me some medicine to get the process started & at midnight the nurse came in to start my IV & remind from that point on I could not eat or drink anything.
I woke up at around 6 o'clock on Thursday morning and was ready to get the process started but we had to wait for Dr. J to arrive to break my water. She arrived around 8 and the process began. At around 11:30, I had to get my epidural b/c my platelet count was low and if I waited to long I might not have been able to get one at all and that was certainly not happening. After I got my epidural I couldn't feel a single thing and that lasted until Dr. J was just about done stitching me up.
The day went by pretty quickly, with a bunch of cat naps and my annoying IV's beeping all day b/c I kept moving my arm in weird positions. Finally around 4:30, I paged my nurse and asked her if she could come and check and see how far along I was b/c I was starting to feel a lot of pressure. She came in and checked and I was 10 cm dilated, but Campbell was still pretty high up there, so they made me sit up and hoped that gravity would help to pull her down. Dr. J arrived around 5:30 and I began pushing at 5:45, which was really hard to do b/c my epidural was working so well I couldn't even tell when I was having a contraction, so Kristy & Dr. J had to tell me when to push or I would have just continued to sit there.
After 45 minutes of pushing, Margaret Campbell Harris made her way into the world & was greeted with kisses & love by her mommy & daddy who were beyond thrilled to see what she looked like and to finally have our baby girl. Brian did so well and was so great during the labor and delivery...he had made a playlist to play during labor and was a great cheerleader & help while I pushed. He even cut the cord, which totally shocked me, but I am so glad that he did. After we got to see Campbell for a few minutes, they took her to get her all cleaned up and get her weight, length & all the necessities. She weighed 8 lbs 10 oz and was 21 inches long. At first they were a little concerned b/c her blood sugar was low, but after a while that concern went away and we were able to spend some time together as a family.
The new hospital rules that are being enforced are a little annoying though b/c they don't allow more than 2 visitors in a room at a time and Brian was considered a visitor so that meant that my parents and sister couldn't come back and see Campbell and one time. They each had to take turns or two of them could come back if Brian left....CRAZY! I understand b/c of all the germs, but I would have thought that the babies father wouldn't have counted as a visitor.
Later that night around 11, after I had enjoyed my #7 from Jersey Mike's, we were moved upstairs to our room on the recovery floor, which was tiny, but the bed was much more comfortable. The rest of our hospital stay was uneventful and filled with wonderful friends and family coming to visit us and meet Miss Campbell, luckily on that floor they weren't as strict about the 2 visitors policy which was nice. The people who came to meet Campbell in the hospital were: Noni & my Dad (he hasn't decided what he wants to be called yet), Aunt Kaite & Colin, Leigh, Insley, Chris, Dr. Peters, Ashley, Brad & Christina. It was so wonderful of everyone to come and visit her.
We were finally discharged on Saturday at around 11:30, after waiting around from about 9:30 for all the paperwork to be completed. I told Brian in the car on the way home that it was weird to be out in the world with her & to drive around and no one you pass had any idea that you have a 3 day old in the car with you. We made it home and let Grover meet Campbell for the first time, which went well. He really didn't think much of her, sniffed her a few times and then went on about his business. The weekend was full of more visitors, which was really nice. On Saturday Uncle Aaron, my family, Mory & Chris came to visit. On Sunday Mark & Jessica came to visit and brought us lunch...you will never guess what I had a #7 from Jersey Mike's...I missed that sandwich so much!!!
That pretty much sums up the first few days of Campbell's life. We are so blessed and honored to have her in our lives and can't wait to share with all of you all the special moments in her life.
